Our New Year Adventures

Things have been a bit chaotic at our house this past while. At the beginning of January, Collin hit a patch of black ice and hit the cement barrier and was left facing oncoming traffic. He left the ordeal fine but the car was totaled. We were so blessed that he was not hurt and that no other cars were involved! Out of the whole thing Collin was able to get a new car that he really likes, unfortunately he is currently unable to drive it.

About two weeks ago Collin was playing indoor soccer and he took a very hard (dirty) hit to his right leg. He completely shattered his fibula and broke his ankle on his Tibia. He spent several hours at the ER and left with the knowledge that he had to have surgery. Two days later he had the surgery and all went well. He had a plate and seven screws put on his fibula, two large screws in his tibia and a titanium plate and this button thing that connects both bones. He has to be on no weight bearing for 6 weeks and then take 6 more weeks to add his full weight.

Things were very rough. Any time he would move he would have extreme pressure and his toes would turn colors. We made it through and felt like we were making progress and it all shattered on his birthday.

We went to the doctor to have the stitches removed and new x-rays done. Then we found out that the first surgery did not work and a new one had to be done. Immediately. Surgery was scheduled for the next day. We were very discouraged. The surgery was supposed to be quick and easy less than an hour. Well Pyper and I were waiting and getting nervous as the time passed an hour and neared to the half. Several other surgeons came out and said, "The surgery went great." Then we were called into the conference room. My heart nearly stopped.

The doc said "All is well the ends well." Now Collin has eight screws, a larger plate and a screw. But the difference in him from this last surgery and before is huge and it is all for the better! The day after surgery he was sitting up and things are going much better. We are keeping our fingers crossed that all will be well. We have been so blessed. We have had tons of help and support from family, friends and neighbors. We have been blessed to have several people bring us meals most by just showing up so despite our chaos our blessings have far outweighed the troubles we have.
